Limerence, explores the idea of Limerence. Limerence is a complex psychological state that involves an intense and often obsessive attraction to another person. This emotional experience is frequently marked by idealizing the other person to an unrealistic degree, where one’s sense of self-worth becomes increasingly dependent on the attention and affection of that person. On the other hand, one’s self can feel blurred, unclear, fixated, confused, or even angry for feeling such impulsive emotions. These emotions can result in various outcomes and expressions–where the feelings can present different stages of obsessive attraction.

The self-portraits examine the ideology of limerence, expressing emotions, unrealistic degrees, and affection through digital black and white photography with hints of colors. Each photograph serves as a visual representation of the various psychological states that unfold throughout the different stages of limerence. These include the euphoria of infatuation, as well as the darker aspects, such as anxiety, fear, confusion, and the emotional extremes that often accompany obsessive longing. Emotions like sadness, frustration, violence, and even physical symptoms like sickness are depicted, reflecting the mental and emotional toll of limerence, which the project explores as it delves into the psychological complexities of obsessive attraction. Through self-portraits, the project captures the multifaceted nature of limerence, from the intoxicating highs of infatuation to the darker emotional turmoil.
